In Rayman Redemption

Redbots, or red robots, are dangerous enemies introduced in Rayman Redemption, appearing very similar to the mad drummer and being found exclusively in Band Land and notably Bongo Hills.

They wield a flail similar to the mad drummer's maces, but much smaller, and use it both to attack Rayman and defend themselves. They have a medium range and Rayman can dodge the flail's striking head by jumping or crawling. The flail's chain is harmless, so Rayman can safely stand between the spiky ball and the redbot for a brief moment.

When attempting to hit a redbot, it will instantly make itself invincible by shielding its whole body behind its flail, thus making it only vulnerable when attacking. The ball can also block incoming attacks, which makes it very advisable to quickly alternate between crouching, jumping and punching to successfully hit the redbot, especially as they have six health points, thus making precisely jumped attacks vital to dispose of them quickly.

In Rayman ReDesigner

Redbots return as enemies from Rayman Redemption, behaving as they did before. They are available through the editor in the first page of the enemies tab, and can be linked to events such as gendoors. They can also be flipped, although this serves no purpose during gameplay as redbots always face automatically towards Rayman no matter where he is standing, and it's only possible to get behind them very briefly when they're attacking.

Redbots cannot fall and do not need any tiles to stand on as they'll simply float in the air.

They can still perfectly guard themselves against any attack, including Bzzit and the dinosaur mount's projectiles, or the Shock Rocket, although they're still vulnerable to being instantly defeated by the invincibility power-up or the dinosaur's contact damage. A single hit of the Heavy Metal Fist or from the Shock Rocket while they're vulnerable is enough to dispose of them, although the latter can be very difficult to use in time against them.

Trivia

Redbots as they appeared in Rayman Redemption's Gameplay Demo, featuring a more mace-like weapon and white gloves.
  • Redbots were different during the early development of Rayman Redemption and the Gameplay Demo, having a different sprite, a much shorter attack range and being unable to shield themselves, thus making much easier opponents to defeat. They were changed due to feedback about their lack of adaptative defensive abilities compared to enemies from the original Rayman, mainly provided by Glackum during his livestream on the demo, referencing the back of Rayman 1's PlayStation box advertising menacing opponents learning the player's play styles to defeat them[1]. This further prompted Ryemanni to turn them into the highly resilient enemies they are now.
  • Redbots go unnamed in Rayman Redemption, but are referred to internally as "Redrobot", including in Rayman ReDesigner's files. Their shortened name is visible in the level editor of Rayman ReDesigner, with the mad drummer being named "Big Redbot" in this game to highlight their similarity.
  • The Rockstar Rayman skin is themed after them and the mad drummer.
