Plum

Plums are large bouncy fruits that are found commonly in Rayman fan games, being one of the most iconic objects in the Rayman series.

In Rayman: The Dark Magician's Reign of Terror

Uniquely, plums are characters in Rayman: The Dark Magician's Reign of Terror, appearing in Flying Mountains as Plumen, or living plums. They deal damage to Rayman on contact, although they don't display any explicit hostile intent as they walk around on platforms aimlessly. Rayman can safely jump on top of their plum body to use them as platforms, which will stop them in their tracks as they appear stunned.

In Rayman Redemption

Plums return from the original Rayman game, behaving exactly as they once did. They are once again featured as the main target in the Breakout Minigame, and successfully completing it grants the Plums for Days achievement. Plum-Man, also known as the plum skin, has a plum with eyes as a head and features their color scheme.

In Rayman ReDesigner

Plums and swinging plums return from Rayman Redemption, sharing the same behaviors as before. Plum-Man also returns as a skin. Plums cannot be placed detached through the editor and will start instead as a plum generator, creating another plum once its fruit disappears from the screen. The generators can be placed anywhere, which may result in their leaves appearing to float in the air. If a tall Livingstone is placed with their head close enough inside a plum generator's crosshair, the Livingstone will start in the map with his head already stuck inside the plum, and the generator will quickly regrow another plum.

The plums are able to float in liquid tiles of any color, which may result in the in-water sprite of a plum appearing unfitting depending on the environment. They will, however, produce an appropriate splash, or none at all if the collision was a no splashing type. On the other hand, they cannot float in the liquid objects, although players can create the illusion of plums swimming through them if they place functional tiles inside and do not make the fluid move.

Trivia

  • A plum styled similarly to the Wikipedia logo is used as the emblem of Rayfanpedia. The colors used on the encyclopedia are also an homage to plums.
