Space Mama is a large, blonde-haired woman who serves as a recurring boss of Picture City in Rayman Redemption. Unlike the bosses of other worlds, which are typically fought only once, with mini-boss encounters taking place between Rayman and other creatures, Space Mama is fought three times throughout Picture City. This is likely due to her profession as an actress playing different roles, using different costumes, props and supporting characters. Indeed, the battles are always set on theatre stages, and Space Mama explicitly refers to them as "plays", in which Rayman, at least from her point of view, takes on the role of the villain.
Because of her vastly different roles, she is referred to by different names: Viking Mama or Pirate Mama in the first encounter, Greek Mama or Roman Mama in the second encounter, and Space Mama in the final battle. The entire second battle with Greek Mama is new to Rayman Redemption and did not exist in the original Rayman.

Eraser Plains
Welcome to the show, everyone! Today's play is called "The Ray-gold"! Can our clever crew defeat the greedy Albe-Ray? Let the show begin!—Viking Mama, Rayman Redemption
During the first encounter (as Viking Mama), she battles Rayman on a theatre scene with a seaside décor, in a stereotypical Viking setup. Rayman must first defeat her two cabin boys, after which Viking Mama appears from the cannon of the fake Drakkar, wearing a historically inaccurate horned helmet.
Her main attack consists of throwing knives at Rayman from her rolling pin. Those knives either stick into the floor, and can be used to bounce on them and punch Space Mama in the face, before they start moving again and leave the scene, bounce on the floor directly towards the left exit of the stage, spin in the air briefly before flying in Rayman's direction, one after the other.
Viking Mama has a new phase in Rayman Redemption: when she has only one hit point left, she returns to the deck of the Drakkar, and sails it back and forth across the water, while hurling spinning knives at Rayman. Rayman must avoid the knives and throw punches at the Drakkar or at Viking Mama. After 10 hits, the Drakkar sinks, while Viking Mama flies away, indicating the end of the play.

This form of Space Mama is encountered again in the True Boss Rush, gaining red colors for her shoes and her skirt, and a blue belt. This variation of Viking Mama has many changes, such as shooting knives without a hilt for Rayman to bounce on it thus damaging him instead, shooting bombs instead of bouncing knives when aiming horizontally at Rayman, and attacking with three homing knives instead of one while in her Drakkar.

Pencil Pentathlon/Art Block

Welcome to the show, everyone! Today's play is called "The Battle of Tray"! We are marching on the gates of Tray, but one man stands before us! Let the show begin!—Greek Mama, Rayman Redemption
Space Mama is fought either at the end of Pencil Pentathlon or Art Block depending on which level the player attempts first. During the second encounter, she battles Rayman on a wooden horse similar to the Trojan horse and holding a torch, while the horse repeatedly moves back and forth across the stage, seemingly on wheels. The horse's eyes constantly follow Rayman's movements, as if alive.

Roman Mama fought at either Art Block or Pencil Pentathlon.
During most of the fight, her lackey in hoplite armor, with a gladius sword and a shield, struts around the stage, harming Rayman if he touches him or his gladiator sword. Whenever he is about to attack, the hoplite casts away his shield, which Rayman must punch to stop in mid-air. Standing on the shield platform, Rayman can reach higher ground and punch Greek Mama once or twice in the face, before the shield returns to its owner.
Every time she is hurt, Greek Mama will launch a string of fireballs that Rayman must avoid as they bounce across the stage. When she has only one hit point left, she will summon a floating crusher statue, which she attempts to drop at Rayman. At this point, the hoplite will stop trying to hit Rayman with the sword, and just walks back and forth, still able to hurt Rayman by touch. Rayman must position himself so that the crusher statue, as it tries to crush him, hits the hoplite instead. After three hits, the armor breaks, and the lackey flies away, leaving his shield behind. Rayman must use it one final time to hit Greek Mama to win the battle.
By taking advantage of the possibility to hit Roman Mama twice in the same jump, it is possible to completely avoid the final difficult section of the battle.

In the True Boss Rush, Greek Mama is fought again, donning a white toga. In this challenge, she brings a second pirate disguised as a hoplite albeit without a shield, wearing a dark silver armor with green crest and cape instead.

Space Mama's Crater
Welcome to the show, everyone! Today's play is called "Space Wars Episode 25: Attack of the Raylien"! The brave Space Mama must eliminate the disgusting Raylien before it conquers the whole galaxy! Let the show begin!—Space Mama, Rayman Redemption

Space Mama faced at the end of Space Mama's Crater.
The third and final encounter (as Space Mama) takes place on a stage with a background depicting the surface of the moon or an alien planet. Space Mama enters the stage via a flying washing machine, and will begin attacking Rayman by shooting lasers from her rolling pin. Rayman must duck or otherwise avoid the lasers, and punch her in the face until she flies away. She will then try to land on him, which he must avoid, and continue shooting lasers.
When she has five hit points left, Space Mama will start whirling across the stage, dropping pressure cookers behind her. These cookers will explode in two parts, the lid, and the pot, these parts will then be launched in opposing directions, and can damage Rayman if he comes into contact with either of them. Thus, Rayman must find an open spot that will prevent him from making contact.
After a while, Space Mama will try to land on Rayman and fire a laser one more time, before climbing into her washing machine. The washing machine will spin in the air several times, before firing a huge energy beam from its open door. Both the machine and the beam are capable of hurting Rayman, so correct positioning on the stage is crucial. When the machine stops moving, Rayman can punch it. It takes four hits to destroy the washing machine. This flying washing machine segment is different from Rayman 1, where Space Mama merely hid behind the machine, while firing alternating high and low lasers.
After the machine's destruction, Space Mama will alternate landing, laser and pressure cooker attacks, until Rayman depletes all her hit points. Once beaten, Space Mama stays sitting on the ground, appearing inconscious, instead of dancing to Rayman's victory tune like in the original game.

Space Mama is fought again in the Boss Rush and the True Boss Rush, gaining red and black colors in the latter as well as longer laser attacks and the ability to spawn additional space pots, including while moving in her washing machine.

Space Mama in both her viking and space suits reappear later as parts of the Dark Chimera, being used in three of its hybrids. Her hands and laser rolling pin are combined with the Menace and Mr Skops, then they are combined again alongside her viking head to Moskito, and finally her torso is merged with Moskito and Mr Sax.
She's ultimate seen again in the ending after she turned good, performing another play in a space setting alongside her cabin boys and her washing machine pretending to fight Mr Dark, who's actually just a pole wearing his clothes. A crowd of various characters seen as shadowy silhouettes are watching the scene, including Betilla, Tarayzan or possibly Rayman, the Magician, the Musician and his family, either the Photographer or the Shopkeeper, and various Electoons. This scene has been altered in version 1.1.0 to match the cabin boys' new robotic appearance.

In Rayman ReDesigner
Space Mama was added to Rayman ReDesigner in version 1.4.0 albeit only in her space suit. She's found in the second page of the enemies tab in the editor, and can be flipped or linked to events. Just as the other main bosses returning from Rayman 1 and Rayman Redemption, she's an invincible chaser who can only be eliminated through killdoors or by a fall out of the stage. Despite being invincible, she reacts with her signature pirate sound if Rayman attacks her, and doing so won't trigger her chase despite that.
She shares the other terrestrial bosses' behaviors, thus reacting accordingly to turning, jumping, stopping, or attacking chaser mechanisms. Her attack shoots a laser from her rolling pin, but she uniquely also possesses an aerial attack which makes her switch to her spinning flying movement and which is triggered if she encounters an attack mechanism in the air. This makes her able to chase Rayman both on the ground and in the air, and to adjust her chasing speed as she's considerably slow on land but very fast while flying.
Like other chasers, Space Mama only starts moving once she spots the player, which occurs whenever Rayman is about six to fourteen tiles away in front of her and also makes her react with a grunting sound. Physical contact will push Rayman away even under the effects of the Invincibility power-up. Space Mama turns back on her own if she encounters any solid tile on the ground, and will land if she meets one while flying. She will fall from any platform's edge even if there are no special tiles that can be passed through at their ledge, including the map's borders if they aren't blocked by solid collisions. A gap must be at least three tiles wide to let Space Mama pass through it, but two are enough to make her briefly behave as if she fell, no matter the height of the "fall".
Her crusher statue, space pots and most of her minions are available as obstacles and enemies, including the Robo Flyers, Robo Dashers, Robo Gunners, Robo Bombers, Hoplites and Fire Boys. This makes her the Rayman ReDesigner antagonist with the most minions, if excluding Mr Dark.
Viking Mama is depicted on a drawing from the art paper available in Picture City's template, alongside the Bomb pirate in his original appearance. The Robo Flyer and Robo Gunner also wear a variation of her space suit, due to her being unavailable in the game prior to version 1.4.0.
Trivia
- Despite not being featured in Rayman Redemption's Gameplay Demo, the hud icons for each of Space Mama's costumes can be found in the internal files.
- As she's fought in three levels of Picture City and appears in either Pencil Pentathlon or Art Block depending on which one the player completes first, Space Mama is the only boss in Rayman Redemption who can be encountered in every level of her respective world. She's also the boss with the most different appearances, for a total of six if counting the True Boss Rush variations.
- When playing in 16:9 aspect ratio, two curtains will remain at the edges of Space Mama's fighting area in all of her appearances. As most returning bosses, this was done in order to not stretch the original background art and to keep gameplay the same between 4:3 and widescreen formats.
- The level where Roman Mama will always appear is decided when the player enters either Pencil Pentathlon or Art Block for the first time, thus adding a form of permanent choice in Rayman Redemption and a way to skip the battle entirely by exiting the first entered level and completing the other. This makes her one of the very few bosses that can be skipped in Rayman Redemption.
- Strangely, Greek Mama's hand holding the torch is smaller in the True Boss Rush. This makes her one of the only bosses alongside the Menace whose visual changes go beyond a color swap.
- Roman Mama's introductory dialogue and her wooden horse hiding the hoplites are a reference to the Trojan War.
- Space Mama's speech in her final dialogue is an obvious reference to Star Wars, particularly Attack of the Clones.
- By using the RIPGRIMA cheat code in Rayman Redemption, the sound of Rayman's grimace will be replaced by Space Mama's grunts. This does not apply to the Dark Rayman clone.
- Alongside Darktoon and the Menace, Space Mama is the only returning main boss from Rayman Redemption and the only boss Rayman 1 who was implemented through an update in Rayman ReDesigner, as the other bosses were available since the original 0.1.0 release. This is most likely due to her slow walking speed and to her role being originally fulfilled by the Robo Gunner enemy, one of her minions who reprised her space suit and laser rolling pin. She's also the only boss who reacts to a chaser attack mechanism placed in the air and who is capable of switching between walking and flying, and also the only invincible one who makes a sound whenever hit by Rayman.
- In Rayman ReDesigner, if an immobile Space Mama is standing on any chaser mechanism except the stopping one, she'll perform her chasing animation without actually moving. Her movement will start properly once she spots Rayman. In the case Space Mama is flying while not chasing Rayman, she will land back on the ground once she encounters him, and proceed to move forward.
- Due to Rayman ReDesigner being released after Rayman Redemption's version 1.1.0, her cabin boys do not retain their appearance from the original Rayman, although their robotic replacements got a refined design for Rayman ReDesigner.
