Lava

Lava is a deadly fluid featured in some Rayman fan games. It is often encountered in situations where it will rise.

In Rayman Redemption

Lava is featured extensively in the unofficial remake of the original Rayman game, appearing in most parts of Molten Depths similarly to Fiery Depths in the Game Boy Color version, whereas it originally made a single appearance in the Caves of Skops. It kills Rayman instantly should he be engulfed by it, similarly to water. It emits a visual fog effect and generates light in the dark.

It is found for the first time at the bottom of Molten Depths' first part, although it's only decorative. In the next part, however, Rayman will have to carefully avoid the lava swaying up and down at regular intervals on his way to the exit sign. In the third and fourth parts, lava will rise continuously, forcing Rayman to quickly make his way upwards. Lava last appears during the Darktoon battle in Molten Depths, Rayman must avoid falling inside while fighting Mr Dark's minion. Once Darktoon is defeated, spiky platforms will appear in all of the platforms' gaps to prevent any fall during the subsequent dialogue. It is also present during the True Boss Rush as part of Darktoon's third battle.

Lava can be encountered optionally in the Electric Meltdown challenge, as an hazard and a light source.

Hot chocolate, a new Candy Château variation of lava, appears during the Bad Cake encounter as part of its body during its chase and boss fight, rising continuously. It acts identically to lava, but without the fog, and Bad Cake can shoot chocolate projectiles from it.

In Rayman ReDesigner

Lava and hot chocolate both return in Rayman ReDesigner, but without the Bad Cake for the latter, and can be both placed from the second page of the editor's obstacles tab. Lava fog has become unavailable since version 1.0.0, as it caused too many issues, mainly involving foreground elements. Since version 1.3.3, there's a unique sound for drowning in lava or hot chocolate and Rayman won't be heard screaming.

Their behavior can be controlled through various water mechanisms, so players can make them rise or descend at adjustable speeds when Rayman is inside a trigger, or use water stoppers to restrict their movement to a certain limit in the entire map. When a water stopper successfully stops a liquid obstacle's movement, the stopper will disappear, allowing the fluid to be moved again past that limit should Rayman trigger it, or letting additional liquids get through while the first one remains stopped. A speed of 0 can also be used on a moving water trigger in order to force all liquids to stop when Rayman walks through it. It is possible to make lava or hot chocolate sway up and down through a setting, as well as rubberband since version 1.2.0, which allow rising and descending fluids to keep up with Rayman's speed.

Unlike water or ink liquids, fishes cannot be placed automatically in lava or hot chocolate and will instead swim at their spawning height, not following any possible movement from the fluid.
