The Photographer is a friendly character from Rayman Redemption, where he reprises his role as a checkpoint, from the original Rayman, Rayman Junior, Rayman Designer and English with Rayman. Normally, he would be seen standing next to a photoboard. When Rayman poses behind the photoboard, the Photographer takes his picture. From that point on, if the player dies in the current section of the level, they will respawn at the photoboard, instead of at the beginning of the section.

Rayman Redemption introduced multiple flight levels, where Rayman and Bzzit are always in motion, and can not stop to pose for a photo. In these levels, the Photographer is seen standing without his photoboard, and will take a picture of the heroes as they fly in front of him.

In level sections where multiple Photographers are present, the active checkpoint is always the one where the latest photo was taken.

Appearance

As in the the original Rayman, the Photographer wears a chequered trench coat and blue shoes, and has a satchel slung over his shoulder. His face is never seen, but one of his eyes is visible through his long blonde hair.

The photoboards

The original photoboard is the same one from the original Rayman game - a bodybuilder standing on a beach, holding a surfboard and a pair of swimming goggles. Checkpoint skins, altering the look of the photoboard, may be purchased at the Shop at various points in the game. The designs from Rayman Junior, Rayman Designer and English with Rayman are available, along with many new ones.

In Rayman ReDesigner

The Photographer returns from Rayman Redemption, being able to be placed as a checkpoint from the editor's utility tab. In Rayman ReDesigner, all of his photoboards are available by default as customization options.

The checkpoints cannot be flipped and they cannot be blocked as they were in Rayman Redemption's Demise mode, but they can be linked to events such as gendoors. The Photographer can be placed in the air as he does not requires any tiles to stand on, but Rayman cannot use his checkpoints if placed three or more tiles above the ground.
