In Rayman Redemption

Moths, are resistant insect enemies encountered in Rayman Redemption, returning from the original Rayman game, still being only found in Band Land.

They come in two varieties based on the types featured in Rayman Designer:

  • Standard Moth: The classic moths with pink-topped antennas freely wander on plaftorms and turn backwards when encountering an obstacle. They do not attempt to attack Rayman but will perform a flying forward jump whenever they take a hit.
Cruel moths are distinguished by their red-topped antennas and angry face.
  • Cruel Moth: Extremely agressive variation of moths. Cruel moths do not move until Rayman comes close, in which case they will mimic some of his movements, such as walking forward or back, and jumping, which will prompt them to attack with a midair kick while doing the latter. If Rayman comes too close, cruel moths will attempt to harm him with a headbutt. When Rayman tries to attack them, they will duck to avoid his telescopic fist, forcing Rayman to attack in midair or to duck close as well so the fist can reach the cruel moth when returning to Rayman. If damaged, cruel moths will respond with a flying kick.

Both types of moths take six hits to defeat, and the cruel moths' many countermeasures against Rayman make them some of the most dangerous enemies in the game.

Moths make an appearance in Band Land's loading screen once again, and the new Greenboi checkpoint skin features the body of a moth.

In Rayman ReDesigner

Moths return from Rayman Redemption in both of their types, retaining their previous behaviours, alongside the related checkpoint skin now available by default. Moths and cruel moths can be placed from Rayman ReDesigner's level editor, available in the first page of the enemies tab.

Regular moths turn back when encountering the limit of a level, and only glide down from a platform if there are special non-solid collisions next to it such as reactionary tiles. Cruel moths can fall from any edge if Rayman exploits their mimicking behaviors, allowing him to trick them into falling in pits or liquid tiles.

Trivia

  • Originally, the cruel moths' sprites should have had more different colors, such as pink feet and yellow-topped antennas, but Ryemanni reconsidered it as he thought it didn't look good enough.
