—Mr Dark, various occurrences

Mr Dark is Rayman's arch-nemesis, and a major character in the Rayman series, both in official and fanmade content. A diabolical and mysterious shape-shifting sorcerer, Mr Dark has attempted to disrupt the balance of the Glade Of Dreams on several occasions, but is always thwarted by Rayman.

appearance

personality

Mr Dark is a ruthless, power-thirsty, and sadistic lord of evil, and has become a legend in the Glade Of Dreams since his disappearance in [Rayman Redemption]. He is also very manipulative and a clever trickster, as he usually confronts people alone to sway them to the dark side using their insecurities and by making deals. He also likes to torment his enemies, as he usually toys with them before fighting them directly; this usually leads to his defeats in various occasions.

in Rayman Arcade

Mr Dark captured some electoons and put them in a cage. He is guarding it at the top of each stage. Whenever the player reaches the cage on stages 1-3, he grabs it and takes it to the next stage. On stage 4, he launches attacks at Rayman, like fireballs and lightning, but then, when 3 buttons are punched, a ladder appears, allowing Rayman to climb up and punch Mr Dark off the tower and free the electoons.

in Rayman Jungle Run console edition

While he does not appear, he is mentioned by Betilla, who asks where Mr Light is after having her menory erased. This hints at his true identity that is revealed in Rayman 4: Cloak Of Darkness.

in Rayman Fiesta Run console edition: Candy Calamity

While he does not appear, his influence is felt due to the fact that the DLC takes place in Candy Chateau, where Rayman faced off with him in Rayman Redemption. Rayman assures the group that he is positive that since he hasn’t appeared in years, they will probably never see him again, foreshadowing Rayman Adventures console edition.

in Rayman Adventures console edition

Hello, Rayman. Did you miss me?

Mr Dark returns as the main antagonist of this upcoming game by Benoraloha, and this time, he seems to have some sort of an obsession with ancient eggs. He stole them from the Sacred Tree, but one of them escaped and ended up with Rayman and Barbara, who team up with The Captain.

In the 4th world, Fairy Glade, Mr Dark scares a red lum, which turns out to be Andre, and in the 5th world, Desert of the Knarren, the 2 meet Reflux. In the 7th world, Fiesta de Los Muertos, Mr Dark casts a spell on El Stomacho, turning him into a beast to swallow Edith Up.

In the final non-optional world, Dark Kingdom, the heroes climb Mr Dark’s Tower. When they get to the top, Mr Dark summons the bosses from Rayman Redemption and Raymesis while he, Andre, and Reflux get away in an airship with the crystal egg. The heroes defeat them, and then catch up on their mosquitoes in the dark finale, Mr Dark’s Getaway, where they defeat Reflux. Afterwards, they board the airship. There, Mr Dark takes the Scepter of the Leptys and then turns into a dragon of ultimate darkness. The battle has 2 phases. In the 1st phase, Mr Dark spits purple fireballs and breathes purple fire, and you damage him by hitting Andre (Whom he throws as one of his attacks) back at him (this is probably a reference to the first Cortex battle from Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time). In the 2nd phase, Mr Dark covers the ground with a stream of fire, and there are 3 platforms for the players to stand on. Sometimes in the 1st phase, lividstones will run out to attack, and in the 2nd phase, thunder clouds will roll in to strike the heroes.

After being defeated, Mr Dark’s dragon form seems to explode, but after the credits play, he is revealed to be alive, having landed in a part of the forest. He then casts a spell to turn the surrounding area into a world identical to Arcane Forest called Shady Contracts.

in Rayman Mini console edition

Mr Dark returns in the sequel. He now has a new target; The Garden. He starts stealing ancient eggs from each mini land, and taking them to the penultimate world, Shady Contracts. When the heroes finally arrive, they get contracts to complete in order to rescue the eggs and hatch the creatures. When the heroes have rescued all the creatures, Mr Dark challenges them to a battle. This battle is very similar to that in Rayman Adventures console edition, but since Andre isn’t there, Mr Dark tries to slam his hand into the ground, and you must punch it back at him to damage him. The heroes beat him, and he falls into a hole.

in Rayman Quest

in The Adventures Of Rayman

Mr Dark is the main villain of this cartoon series. He is trying to kidnap teensies and electoons, wither out the enchanted forest, capture the Nymphs, and turn the 4 kings into monsters. But his main target is the heart of the world itself, the Great Protoon! To advoid the gang from messing with his plans, he hires Inspector Grub to hunt them down, who joins them in the final season.

—description

He is a playable fighter, being unlocked in the Mr Dark’s Tower stage. His primary assist is Ales Mansay, his secondary assist is Dark Rayman, and his final smash is him turning into a dragon like in Rayman Adventures console edition and bombarding the stage with fireballs and lightning.

in Rayman Multiverse

in Rayman 4: Cloak Of Darkness

Mr Dark, Ales Mansay, and Dark Rayman escape from the Nightmare Veil with help from a group of nightmares led by Jano. After a tutorial boss fight, his hat and cloak fall off and it is revealed that under his disguise, he was the original hero of the Glade Of Dreams before Rayman, and his name was originally Mr Light. He then puts his disguise back on and knocks Rayman unconscious, where he is soon woken up by Globox.

Afterwards, Mr Dark finds what is actually a fragment of Cursa from Mario + Rabbids: Sparks Of Hope that ended up in the Glade Of Dreams. He decides to fuse with it and become a bigger threat.

Later, he forms an alliance with other villains such as Admiral Razorbeard, Andre, Reflux, Professor Barranco, Ray Of The Dead, and Flaming Teensy. He also creates dark versions of Globox and Barbara to accompany Dark Rayman and Dark Ramon.

He also seemed to have a counterpart from Dimension X who was killed by Ramon prior to the events of the game.

trivia

-His dragon form during the final boss uses Umbra’s model from the mobile game Hungry Dragon.

-The way he “explodes” after the final battle in Adventures is likely reminiscent of the explosion from the ending cutscene from Super Mario Galaxy.

-His boss theme in Rayman Adventures console edition is a dark, tense, more atmospheric remix of his theme from the original game composed by Arcane Dreams.

-His boss theme in Rayman Mini console edition is a live cover of his theme from the original game composed during the Rayman by Remi project.

-His final boss battle in Rayman 4: Cloak Of Darkness is mainly inspired by Cursa from Mario + Rabbids: Sparks Of Hope.

-His original full name when he was a hero was Mr Robbie Light, and when he became a villain, he changed it to Mr Rotten Dark. Both 1st names are a reference to Robbie Rotten, the main villain from the children’s show LazyTown. Coincidentally, both villains spy on the main characters using binoculars and periscopes.

-He is also similar to Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls, as both villains are mysterious beings who take pleasure in tormenting others, invade people’s dreams, and overall want to destroy the world.
