It is I, Rayman! The guardian of dreams! Now let those poor teensies go!
—Rayman, Rayman comics: Camp Crazy

Rayman is the main protagonist of the video game series of the same name as well as multiple fan-made games.

appearance

personality

Rayman is cheerful yet usually calm, and has a good sense of humor. He is also very helpful, and is willing to take on whatever challenges face him for the sake of his world’s (and his friends’) safety. He can be sassy and rebellious, yet a good hearted and noble spirit. However, he can be impulsive, jumping into situations without thinking first. Rayman is also highly close to nature, as his house mainly consists of natural elements such as plants.

abilities

telescopic fist

Rayman has more range than any other character due to his limblessness. His charge-up attack from Origins and Legends remains the same, but with more range.

helicopter hair

propeller hair

Rayman can use his hair to put out fires, blow enemies and objects away from him, and create wind gusts that help other players get to higher areas.

combat fatigues

beam of light

When the lum meter is full, he can shoot a beam of light out of the circle on his chest, defeating any opponent and freeing any teensy in front of him.

relationships

Globox

Globox is Rayman’s best friend, and the two are like brothers to each other. Their shared taste in goofiness and adventure has brought them close to each other, and they often come out laughing after getting out of a situation.

Barbara

Barbara is a good friend and powerful ally to Rayman, as they love to go on adventures together, first being shown in a comic book to promote Rayman Adventures console edition.

Chuck

Rayman acts like the big brother to both Chuck and Jack.

Jack

Murfy

Jason

Ly

Though Rayman is shy and unsure about it, he seems to have a crush on Ly. Later on, the two start a romantic relationship, having their first kiss in an episode of The Adventures Of Rayman, and they get married in a post-credits scene in Rayman 4: Cloak Of Darkness. They later have a child in Rayman 5: Revenge Of Dark Rayman.

Betilla

Over the years, Rayman has formed a deep bond with Betilla through a mother-son relationship. He cares deeply about her, especially in How Mr Dark Stole Christmas!, when he feels sad due to Betilla being trapped in the Nihtmare Veil, and is overjoyed when he gets her back for Christmas.

Mr Dark

Mr Dark is Rayman’s arch-nemesis. Rayman hates him for everything he stands for, especially when he is stealing the Great Protoon, captured teensies and electoons, stealing the ancient eggs, wiping out the fairies, or anything to ruin the harmony in the Glade Of Dreams. Rayman shows some fear of Mr Dark, especially when he appears in front of him in the Rayman Adventures console edition level Moskito-Back Prizeway.

Ales Mansay

Dark Rayman

Henry and Moe

Rayman has a neutral relationship with the two lividstones. Though he doesn’t hold any grudges against them, he will try to stop them from capturing teensies and electoons.

Tarayzan

The Captain

Vern

in Rayman Arcade

He learns that Mr Dark has kidnapped some electoons, and goes off to rescue them. When he completes stages 1-3, he sees Mr Dark taking them away, and on the transition between stages 2 and 3, he chases Mr Dark on his mosquito. At the 4th and final stage, he must dodge the attacks while trying to get to each button to punch them and open the way to the top of the tower, free the electoons, and punch Mr Dark off the tower.

No arms, no legs, but he packs a punch,

The limbless hero’s victory is my best hunch!

—description, Benoraloha Bash

He is one of the default playable characters, along with many other characters from his franchise such as Globox, Barbara, teensies, Ly, Jason, Mr Dark, and Admiral Razorbeard. His assists return from the fighting game Mugen, in which Ly is his primary assist and Betilla is his secondary assist.

His final smash shows Murfy, Globox, Barbara, Jack, and Chuck beating up the opponent(s), ending with Rayman punching the opponents after charging up his fist. This is a reference to both the opening cutscene from Origins and the ending cutscene from Legends.

Spy Mouse console edition

In this reimagining of the 2011 mobile game Spy Mouse, there is an unlockable costume called Raymouse, which is a reference to Rayman. This costume features Agent Squeak (the main character) wearing Rayman’s iconic purple hoodie and a wig that resembles his hair. When the costume is equipped, Squeak makes his signature peace sign from the Ubiart games.

His fist is also available, appearing in Digger’s Shop as a power up called “Rayman’s Fist”. It costs 40 cheese. When bought, 3 will appear in the power-up inventory, and when activated, a fist will fly forwards, and any unlucky cat who happens to be in its path will be knocked out of the level and will not return until the level is restarted.

Spy Mouse: The Animated Series!

A picture of him appears in the house.

Cuphead 2

Just like in Spy Mouse console edition, his fist is available in Porkrind’s Emporium as a stronger, faster, and more powerful version of the chaser shot. It costs 7 coins.

The Cuphead Show! (continuation)

Rayman and other characters from his franchise cameo in various episodes.

-In Revenge Of The Rat, Globox is seen doing his rain dance to cause a thunderstorm while Werner Werman is building his robotic cat.

-In Bendy And The Devil’s Swing, as The Devil is about to steal Cuphead’s soul, Rayman appears and invites him to join him and his team of heroes. At first, The Devil says no, but then Rayman tells him that it comes with free donuts, to which The Devil shows interest and asks “Where do I sign?”, allowing Cuphead and Mugman to escape.

-In Ocean Commotion, as Mugman and Bendy are sailing out to sea, Rayman and Globox are seen in the background on the beach, roasting marshmallows over a campfire.

-In Festival Of The Moon, Rayman and Globox cameo as party guests, where they are seen tap dancing with Ms Chalice before Hilda Berg crashes the party.

-In Haunted Hijinx, Ray of the Dead and the Phantom cameo as passengers on the Phantom Express. One of Cuphead’s screams is also the same one from the opening cinematic from Rayman Origins.

-In Evil, Vile, And Malice, Rayman is one of the civilians seen running from Evil Cuphead, Vile Mugman, and Ms Malice.

Crash And Spyro’s Amazing Adventure

trivia

-According to Mr Dark, Rayman’s worst nightmare is having his hair cut bald. This is actually a reference to one of the mosaics in Rayman Origins, in which Rayman used to be bald before growing hair.

-One of his idle animations throughout various games, as well as his side taunt from Benoraloha Bash, involves him grabbing a microphone and singing “sexbomb.” This is a reference to Rayman Sings Sexbomb, a song originally by Tom Jones used for an animation test for Pheonix Interactive’s Rayman 4. In addition, Scout from TF2 has the same side taunt, since he also sang the same song.
