Fanon/Medieval Mayhem
Medieval Mayhem is the first world in Rayman Adventures console edition. It features 3 different themes, which are known as Enchanted Forest, Dark Dungeon, and Castle Ramparts. Here, the ancient eggs were stolen, but one of them escaped with Rayman and Barbara. The world culminates in a battle with a dragon named Grunderbite.
Description
Enchanted Forest
The Enchanted Forest theme is the most commonly found theme in Medieval Mayhem. The theme greatly resembles The Dream Forest from Rayman Redemption in that it takes place in a forest environment. There is usually large amounts of grass on the ground, with moss and vines clinging onto walls and cliffs. This makes these areas predominantly green, as almost everything has vegetation of some sort on it. Additionally, the background is filled with trees and dense foliage. Sometimes strange creatures similar to rabbits, squirrels, and owls can be seen. Some sections also resemble murky swamps, featuring pools of water to swim in and waterfalls in the background. In some levels, the heroes can also go through tree trunks.
The forest also has many parts of it which appear to be alive, and can thus move. This can be anything from what appears to be a big hill, to a bunch of branches, to tree roots, and even entire land masses. These moving chunks of land sometimes appear to be held and moved by tree roots, and are often used as obstacles which the heroes have to jump across or avoid in order to not be crushed. Another main component of these areas are vines, which the heroes can swing on to cross gaps or avoid enemies. There are also yellow mushrooms, which appear to release a cloud of gas upon being hit, awarding the player with lums. Almost all levels with this theme contain small pink flower buds which the heroes can hit, rewarding one lum each. The main enemies of this area are lividstones. In several stages, blue butterflies can reveal secret passages.
This theme first appears in The Great Egg-Scape, the first level of Rayman Adventures console edition. It later appears in Whimsical Woods, Once In A Blue Moon, Find ‘Em Forest, Forest Egg Hunt, Bandit Bash, and Cavern Calamity. Its final appearance in this game’s levels is in the level Treacherous Treetops. However, it still appears at the Sacred Tree and at the end of the game after defeating Mr Dark in Mr Dark’s Getaway, where the heroes restore the forest. A darker version of it also appears as the secret final world.
Dark Dungeon
The Dark Dungeon theme, also known as Castle Interior, takes place inside of old medieval themed castles and dungeons. Old spiderwebs and coffins can usually be seen on the walls. There are usually switches which can be activated, and death traps also appear, such as moving walls closing in on the player and water streams pushing the player away. Several stages allow the player to, by using switches, rise the water level to reveal new secrets and progress forward.
Castle Ramparts
The Castle Ramparts theme, also known as Castle Exterior, is introduced in Moskito-Back Prizeway. It has a medieval setting with lividstones and dragons as enemies, as well as castles. This is where the boss battle with Grunderbite takes place.
