A group of mean Space Pirates have arrived to Rayman's world and want to steal all the Electoons. Sound familiar? I don't think so! Infiltrate their mothership and use their own technology against them!"
—Level description, Rayman ReDesigner

They came from Outer Space! or "They Came From Outer Space" is one of the default levels bundled with Rayman ReDesigner, mainly taking place in Picture City and in space, and can be considered the intended second level. It is an original level by Ryemanni about space pirates invading Rayman's world, making it similar to the plot of Rayman 2 The Great Escape. It contains four parts, and notably features the various laser-washing powders as the main mean to progress.

Part 1

This is a section beginning in Band Land, appearing similar to the beginning of Bongo Hills in Rayman Redemption, and the original Rayman in the PC version and most of its derivatives. Many improvised alien structures made of pieces of terrain from Picture City are used here, marking the bottom entrance of the pirate spaceship. The Vortex, Super Jump, LockJaw and Throttle Copter laser-washing powders are used here.

Part 2

The second part takes place in space, inside the alien ship. The Throttle Copter, Vortex, Shock Rocket and Heavy Metal Fist laser-washing powders appear here.

Part 3

The third section is an interstice between the entrance and the reactor areas of the spaceship, featuring some cave-like structures from the Caves of Skops, possibly meant to represent an asteroid field. Here, Rayman must run from big red instakill spiky balls and use Bzzit to reach the reactor. Green Tings also appear in this section, although collecting them has no purpose.

Part 4

The final area is a small confined space containing the ship's overheating reactor, an improvised boss which is comprised of column-like structures from Picture City with lightning eyes acting as turrets and with killdoor switches Rayman and Bzzit must hit. Many yellow, brown and grey spiky balls are spinning around the core to hurt Rayman and obstruct Bzzit's projectiles. Many instakill red spiky balls are blocking the exit and are progressingly removed as Rayman and Bzzit hit more levers, until they can finally escape from the overheating core through the exit sign at the bottom.

Trivia

  • Rayman ReDesigner's bundled levels can be considered as examples of what can be achieved through the game's editor. They Came From Outer Space, in this case, showcases the laser-washing powders gameplay mechanics, mounts such as Bzzit, mixed world templates, and how to improvise chases and boss battles through the final parts.
  • The description telling the player to use the pirates own technology against them hints that the laser-washing powders were created by them in Rayman ReDesigner's universe, instead of the Hoodlums.
  • It may take some ideas from the Final Frontier in Rayman: The Dark Magician's Reign of Terror, as it has some similar level design, visuals and concepts, mainly in the final sections where Rayman gets to the spaceship's core, which is reminiscent of the events taking place in Almost Space.
  • The robotic space pirates who appear in They Came From Outer Space are the same as the Picture City pirates in Rayman Redemption since the 1.1.0 update, thus possibly expanding on their origin and giving their new appearance more context.
  • They Came From Outer Space can be seen as the actual sequel to Rayman Redemption hinted at in the "TOBEYOND" cheat code easter egg instead of Rayman 2 The Great Escape, due to the extremely similar plot. This is further backed up by the fact that no robo-pirate "captain" has officially existed in a Rayman game, as Razorbeard is an admiral.
  • As all other default bundled levels, They Came From Outer Space was last updated in version 1.2.2, and thus lacks many features and improvements implemented in future updates. As a result, playing the level in the current release results in a warning message, although all of its features fully work as intended.
