Laser-washing powder

The laser-washing powders are temporary power-ups originally introduced in Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc. They appear in a few Rayman fan games either as power-ups or as skins, often featuring all of the original cans and sometimes some new ones.

In Rayman: Razorbeard's Vengeance

Rayman: Razorbeard's Vengeance features some of the laser-washing powders from Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc, such as the LockJaw and Throttle Copter.

In Rayman Redemption

The five original laser-washing powder suits from Rayman 3 are featured in Rayman Redemption as skins which can be purchased in the Shop for 300 Tings each. They are some of the most unique skins in the game, giving many cosmetic changes to Rayman's fist if the skin effects aren't disabled in the settings. The Vortex, Heavy Metal Fist and Throttle Copter suits have their original gloves, while the LockJaw suit brings back the metallic claws complete with chains and the Shock Rocket suit shoots its missile instead of a fist.

In this game, some of the Laser-Washing Powders are named differently, the Heavy Metal Fist is shortened to Heavymetal, Shock Rocket is spelled Shockrocket and Throttle Copter is renamed Superheli.

In Rayman ReDesigner

The laser-washing powder return in Rayman ReDesigner exactly as they looked in Rayman Redemption and featuring the same altered names excluding the Throttle Copter now renamed Throtlecopter, although some of their fists have a refined appearance.

However, they aren't skins anymore and behave as temporary transformations with unique abilities just as their original counterparts. They are activated by the returning laser-washing powder cans, which now feature a unique symbol on each of them, although no lasers are shot from the cans when Rayman activates them. A new original purple can is also introduced: the Super Jump or Superjump, an homage to the Power Jump Shoes from Rayman: The Dark Magician's Reign of Terror. The cans can be placed in the editor from the items tab, and can be linked to events, but cannot be flipped. The cans also feature an infinite golden variation available as a toggle in the editor, and their effects on Rayman can only be turned off by going through a curse cleaner or by going through an exit.

As the Hoodlums do not appear in Rayman ReDesigner, their origin is uncertain. It can be inferred from the description of the bundled level They Came From Outer Space! created by Ryemanni that the laser-washing powder cans are a technology created by the space pirates in Rayman ReDesigner's universe. Their appearance and behavior in Rayman ReDesigner was possibly inspired by Rayman: Razorbeard's Vengeance, the first known Rayman fan game to have featured the laser-washing powders into a 2D sidescroller game.

  • The Vortex green can now emits a swirling green aura around its glove, and it can be used to lower screw platforms. It lasts about twenty-four seconds and a half. Its symbol is a tornado.
  • The Heavy Metal Fist red can now features the speed fist's sparckles by default and makes Rayman's fist even more powerful than a gold fist. It destroys breakable walls instantly without charging the fist, and the Heavy Metal Fist is the only power-up having enough strength to break reinforced walls introduced in version 1.0.0, this time requiring a charged punch to remove them. It is also the only power that can defeat the Hoplites added in version 1.4.0, defeating them instantly no matter how Rayman punches them. Its duration is of about ten seconds and a half. Its symbol is Rayman's fist.
  • The LockJaw blue can allows Rayman to grapple onto the flying metalrings with its metallic claws, which makes it the first time both the pink rings and the metalrings are featured in a same game. Its duration is of roughly fifty seconds and a half. Its symbol is a mettallic jaw.
  • The Shock Rocket orange can has the ability to shoot a guided missile, now featuring a slimmer design. The missile can be used to reach far switches or safely attacking enemies, although the missile will expire after a certain range even under the effects on an infinite Shock Rocket can. Despite the missile being an explosive projectile, it isn't stronger than Rayman's fist when it comes to obstacles and thus cannot destroy breakable walls unless Rayman charges his attack beforehand. On the other hand, its damage is equivalent to the Heavy Metal Fist when hitting enemies, excluding the Hoplite who doesn't react to rockets. While using the missile, Rayman cannot take any damage, although he can still be pushed by certain enemies such as bosses. It lasts about six seconds and a half. Its symbol is a rocket.
  • The Throttle Copter yellow can gives Rayman the ability to fly with his helicopter, similarly to the super helicopter available in the same game, although it can be made temporary. This is the most redundant laser-washing powder ability in Rayman ReDesigner, but it allows different ways to limit the super helicopter such as a time limit or restricted areas through curse cleaners. It lasts about four seconds and a half. Its symbol appears to represent the helicopter hair above Rayman's nose.
  • The new Super Jump purple can allows Rayman to jump much higher, resulting in a unique sound effect and some cloudy particles appearing on the ground where Rayman jumped. Its fist is roughly the same as the Throttle Copter's. It shares its duration with the Vortex lasting about twenty-four seconds and a half. Its symbol is an arrow pointing upwards, and the few red colors it provides are possibly a reference to its inspiration: the Power Jump Shoes from Rayman: The Dark Magician's Reign of Terror.
