In Rayman Redemption
Monks, also known as Tibetan sages, are an order of meditative, pacific giants found only in Band Land, returning in Rayman Redemption from Rayman 1. They wear red-and-yellow robes and caps. Like Rayman, they have no arms, and their hands float disconnected from their bodies. However, they do appear to have legs and necks, making them only partially limbless. The Monks' eyes are always closed and their mouths always form relaxed smiles. They are always seen sitting, cross-legged, floating in the air.
They are found exclusively in the cloudy reaches of Gong Heights, and do not appear in Allegro Presto and Mr Sax's Hullaballoo unlike the original game. In the unofficial remake, there's only one type of Monk, being the bongo one, although the small orbs held by some of the the original Monks are featured instead as swinging platforms. As they meditate, these Monks bring bongos back and forth in a steady rhythm; when the bongos are held in front of the Monks' faces, they appear to form scowling patterns. Rayman must use their bongos as platforms to progress through Gong Heights.
The Monk, a similar much smaller and completely limbless character encountered in the second part of Gong Heights, is possibly their leader and allows Rayman to use the goldrings, to help him in his quest to defeat Mr Dark who is distubing the peace of Gong Heights.
In Rayman ReDesigner
The Monks return from Rayman Redemption as platforms in Rayman ReDesigner. Through the editor, Monks can be placed anywhere in a level, as well as the Monk since version 1.3.0 who only acts as a decoration.
