A Toontotem.

Toontotems are structures appearing in Rayman Redemption, in which pink helpers are held captive, sealed away by Mr Dark. Their existence is first explained by Betilla, telling Rayman in which parts of the Valley he must find them. They appear three times throughout the game, showing up at the end of Moskito's Nest, Tempest Terror and Molten Depths.

A Toontotem, as seen at the end of Moskito's Nest.

As Betilla no longers fills the role of granting powers to Rayman like in the original Rayman game, the Toontotems are used as the substitute, providing new means to traverse the world, featuring similar areas with a few Tings and no threats, and having Betilla's music theme.

The first one is found after defeating Moskito and contains the pink rings. The second one is discovered after Darktoon's second defeat, hiding the pink springs. The third one is reached after beating Darktoon a final time, freeing the pink poles. When Rayman approaches a Toontotem, it will react to the magic in Rayman's torso, as a nod to the way Rayman received Betilla's powers in the original Rayman, freeing the many pink helpers inside.

Trivia

  • They're inspired by an unused Electoon gate texture from the PC versions of Rayman 1, having the same appearance.
  • Darktoon is the character most involved with the Toontotems, making his first appearance while Betilla is telling Rayman about them, and being found guarding the last two for his remaining boss battles.
