Night Of The Livid Dead is the 7th episode of The Adventures Of Rayman, and is also the Halloween special. It takes place in the Land of the Livid Dead during a fall festival.

Synopsis

It’s Halloween, and Rayman’s friends want to scare him, though they are all in for a big surprise when they see real ghosts.

Plot

On Halloween night, Rayman is waiting for his friends at the fall festival at the Dead Door (the door to the Land of the Livid Dead). When his friends finally arrive, they tell him to go on ahead and walk into the door, and that they will be along soon, which he does. The friends get ready to use their costumes to scare him. Just after they enter, however, Ray of the Dead appears out from behind a tombstone with a granny and a ghost. The former tells them that they finally have 6 people to frighten, and they get excited, even saying “This is gonna be fun.”

As a bunch of the friends’ plans fail to frighten Rayman, he says that he doesn’t believe in ghosts. However, as the team prepares for their next attempt, they decide to split up. As they are trying to execute their plan, the livid dead play spooky pranks on Rayman, unbeknownst to him, thinking that his pals are doing it, but this time he actually feels fear. He then hears an ominous whistling noise coming from seemingly nowhere, when he sees Ray of the Dead, who was making the sound. Then, the rest of the livid dead appears, and Rayman frantically runs for his life. Meanwhile, other grannies and ghosts are playing jokes on Globox and everyone else, causing them to also feel fear. When everyone meets back up again, including Rayman, they all tell each other that they saw ghosts, as Rayman points in front of him where Ray of the Dead and the granny and ghost from before are, who chase them through the Land of the Livid Dead until they get to an abandoned barn.

When the friends hide in the barn, they discover that Jack has gone missing, and they find him stuck on top of a dead tree surrounded by ghosts. They then hatch a plan to rescue him. They find sheets and use them to disguise themselves as ghosts. Murfy and Barbara tell the livid dead where they last saw the heroes, while Rayman, Globox, and Chuck rescue Jack. Afterwards, Ray of the Dead and the rest of the Livid Dead (who still think they’re ghosts who betrayed them) come back and chase the gang throughout the Land of the Livid Dead through cemeteries, dead trees, and haunted houses, until they finally get back to the dead door, where the ghouls block the exit, and as it seems that they are surrounded, Chuck has an idea. They take their disguises off and immediately lunge out at the Livid Dead. This scares all of them (including Ray of the Dead) and sends them all running away in terror, as the friends laugh. They then walk out the Dead Door, where Mister Death says “I told you so.” Rayman tells his friends that this was the best Halloween ever, and the gang decide to enjoy the fair. Afterwards, Grub decides to check out the Land of the Livid Dead, only to get spooked and chased by Ray of the Dead and the rest of the ghouls, ending the episode.

Trivia

-This episode is a spoof of the movie “Night Of The Living Dead.”

-The episode was originally going to be titled “Livid Dead”, but was changed because Benoraloha wanted to go for a more creative title.

-When Mister Death says “You’re in for a scare,” he may be referring to the TV show Goosebumps.

-Will Byers, a character from the show Stranger Things, makes a cameo in the line to the Dead Door. This is because he featured in a Halloween trailer for Rayman Legends.

-In one of the shots from the second ghost chase, there is a bird’s eye view of the heroes running through a maze where the livid dead are pursuing them. This is a reference to the arcade game Pac Man.

-The whistling noise that Ray of the Dead makes is the same one that Death makes in the movie Puss In Boots: The Last Wish.

-The way the 6 friends scare the undead is a reference to Foxy’s jumpscare from Five Nights At Freddy’s 2.

-This marks the second episode to take place completely at night, the first one being Rabbid Infestation.

-The episode was originally going to be about the friends venturing into the Land of the Livid Dead rather than the inhabitants escaping.
