In Rayman Redemption
Spiders are enemies returning from Rayman 1 in Rayman Redemption, found in the Caves of Skops and Dark Legacy. They attack Rayman with homing stingers, which lose track of him after a few seconds. They do not retain their ability to duck from the original Rayman, similarly to the Atari Jaguar version, thus making them much easier to deal with.
They come in two types:
- Spider Jumper: Does not move until Rayman is in sight, in which case they'll jump to the ceiling to hang onto it, before shooting their homing stingers at Rayman. They're invincible while in mid-air.
- Spider Walker: Only walks on platforms, turning backwards when meeting an obstacle or a platform's edge, and turning their back to Rayman to shoot homing stingers at him.
In the fourth part of Eat at Joe's, Rayman now encounters the Spider Master, a giant spider boss attacking him after plugging back the power to Joe's diner.
The Spider checkpoint skin features the body of a spider on the photoboard, hanging between two walls in the Caves of Skops.
In Rayman ReDesigner
Spiders return as enemies from Rayman Redemption in both of their varieties, and so does the Spider checkpoint skin now unlocked by default, behaving exactly as they did in their previous appearance. They are available through the editor in the first page of the enemies tab, and can be flipped or linked to events such as gendoors.
When they haven't jumped yet, spider jumpers actually float in the air as they do not need any tiles to stand on, and are at this point unaffected by any collisions including water. They can only hang on to solid collisions. If the entire body of a spider jumper passes through water collisions of any kind or if it were standing in one as it jumps, it will drown albeit with a delayed reaction, causing a splash of the appropriate color or none depending on the tile.
Spider webs are available in the Caves of Skops template, which have passthrough bouncy tiles by default, allowing players to create fitting environments for the spiders.
Trivia
- Despite not appearing in the Gameplay Demo, the preview icon for the Four Chambers featuring a spider hanging to a ceiling existed in the internal files.
